One of the major health problem with today men is their constipation problem which is considered a very serious problem now a days. Constipation refers to bowel movements that are infrequent or hard to pass. It is a condition in which there is difficulty in emptying the bowels, usually associated with hardened faeces.  Other symptoms may include abdominal pain, bloating, and feeling as if one has not completely passed the bowel movement. Almost everyone is effected with this problem of constipation sooner or later.

Complications from constipation may include hemorrhoids, anal fissure or fecal impaction.

As we are aware enough that today generation specially those who does sitting jobs are more tend to effect with constipation as they are always sit on one place and never move here and there for a while. It also happen with those also who don’t indulge in physical exercise and always do the inactive job. Due to this reason multiples of people are effected with constipation worldwide.

Causes of constipation :-

However there are many causes of constipation but here is given some important one that leave you feeling constipated.


Constipation can be caused by a low-fiber diet, low liquid intake, or dieting. Dietary fiber helps to decrease colonic transport time, increases stool bulk but simultaneously softens stool. Therefore, diets low in fiber can lead to constipation.


Many medications have constipation as a side effect. Some include opioids, diuretics, antidepressants, antihistamines, antispasmodics, anticonvulsants, anti-diarrheals. Supplements such as calcium and iron supplements can also have constipation as a notable side effect.

Medical conditions:

Some diseases cause slow movement of stool within the colon. They are irritable bowel syndrome,  pelvic floor disorders, hypothyroidism, diabetes, celiac disease,and inflammatory bowel disease.


Voluntary withholding of the stool due to any cause leads to constipation.


  • Straining with bowel movements
  • Excessive time needed to pass a bowel movement
  • Hard stools
  • Pain with bowel movements secondary to straining
  • Abdominal pain
  • Abdominal bloating.
  • the sensation of incomplete bowel evacuation


Drink plenty of water.:-

Drinking more and more water is always good to your body as it keeps are body hormones in balanced format. To digest our food in to our stomach water is most necessary ingredient and so we should drink more of it to avoid digestive problem.

Avoid fast foods.:-

Fast foods are the one of the main factors which lead constipation so be a wise men and keep your selves away from it. Fast food are not good to our body as they are tasty so in shake of it’s deliciousness people eat more and hence unable to digest it which effect the in form of so called constipation.

Chew your food well :-

If you want your foods to be digest easily and absorb by your body then one thing you must have to do is to chew well whatever you eat.


It is most important part of your daily life schedule which may keep you out of the problem of constipation. Sometimes our digestive system is not so active to digest our food easily and themost part of our food remain in digest which ultimately lead to the problem of constipation.

Ayurveda View and treatment :-

As per Ayurveda, constipation is called as vivandha. It is signal of Vata imbalance and blockage of channels.

Dosha responsible for constipation: Apana Vata is responsible for the free flow/expulsion of stool. When the functions of Apana Vata are significantly affected, it results in constipation.

Causes for constipation – Vibandha
Intake of food possessing dry, light, rough qualities. Any food that causes dryness of mouth, lightness in the body and roughness in skin.
Excessive consumption of pungent, astringent and salt foods
Night awakening
Less intake of water
Working in strong sunlight, long walk, heavy travelling
Sitting at a same place for a very long time
Lack of sufficient fibers in diet
Neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease
Excessive use of antacids
Rheumatoid arthritis
Pregnancy – the fetus putting pressure on the intestines, causing lack of bowel movements
Colon cancer
Intestinal obstruction – structural problems such as twisting of intestines (volvulus).

Pathology of constipation as per Ayurveda:
Due to the above said Vata imbalancing factors, Apana vata is aggravated and it is blocked in the lower part of the large intestine, which results in constipation. Aggravation of vata also causes hardness and dryness of stools, results in constipation.  Depending on the grade of affliction, different types of  synonyms for constipation are given – Vibandha, Vishtabdhata, Malabaddhata, Baddhavarchas, Stabdha Pureeshata, Varcho Vibandha .

In the ayurveda problem of constipation which means tough bowel is due to our problem with digestive system. Ayurveda considered if your stomach is not healthy then you can not be healthy ever. So to avoid the problem of constipation you have to take precautions as precautions are better than cure. Avoid fast foods, drink plenty of liquids, exercise daily, use whole grains instead of processed foods. If problems sustains contact physician for proper diagnose and cure of ailment.
